Minor and major repairs
Minor
repairs:
the handyperson service
Minor repairs and adaptations can be very important when you want to
stay independent and Bristol Care & Repair runs a very active
handyperson service. All our handypersons are experienced
tradespeople and are police CRB checked (Criminal Records
Bureau).
We aim to provide a response time of three days or less for more urgent
repairs (and up to three weeks for other jobs).
The handyperson service undertakes essential repairs but can also do some of the ‘nice to haves’. So, for example, we are very happy to fix a WC that won't flush or repair a lock, and we can also fit a shelf or hang pictures.
We can help with many different types of work, including all
of the
following and more:
• leaking taps and toilets
• small plumbing jobs
• lock repairs and upgrades
• blocked gutters
• fitting shelves
• hanging mirrors and pictures
• assembling flat-pack furniture (one
item).
A free home safety check service is also available. Unfortunately, we
don’t currently have the resources to provide an emergency service.
Major repairs
We can also take on larger repair jobs in many cases. If you
are facing a major problem with your home that needs to be resolved
then our technical officers can work with our caseworkers and help you
to find the best solution. A job is classified as a major
repair if it will take more than around half a day to finish. Some
examples include:
• re-roofing
• electrical rewiring
• central heating work
• boiler replacement
• rising damp and penetrating damp
• replacement doors and windows
• uneven paths and steps.
